Aromatherapy to warm and protect this Winter

Promotions on July 10th, 2010

With the Winter Chill upon us, now is the time to protect ourselves and our loved ones against coughs, colds and flu… naturally!

Colds spread quickly and are very infectious. The use of antibacterial oils can provide instant relief for the symptoms of colds and flu, while eliminating germs during the harsh Winter months.  Above all, essential oils provide comfort and can help build up the immune system.

Here are a few tried and tested recipes to help you stay healthy and to keep the germs at bay this Winter.

Oil Garden & InEssence Winter Products

A great simple way to experience the essential oils is to create an Aromatic Tissue. Add 3 drops of In Essence Breathe Easy or Oil Garden Breathe Easier pure essential oil blend to a tissue. Fold the tissue to ensure essential oils are sealed and simply place tissue in top shirt pocket, under your bra strap, inside your pillowcase at night or carry it with you, in your handbag.

The sinus clearing aroma will be warmed by your natural body heat and released throughout the day. If you are more adventurous, create a Massage blend with the above oils by adding 4 drops in total to 12ml of Sweet Almond.  A soothing, chest rub for all the family in preparation for Winter.

Inhalation, practiced for centuries, is still a favourite for clearing the head and relieving the sinuses. Simply fill a stainless steel bowl with 1 litre of hot water. Add 2 drops each of Eucalyptus and Peppermint (total 4 drops), cover head with towel and inhale the vapours.

A recent addition to the endless and beautiful ways of using essential oils is to Spritz the surrounding air and surfaces to get rid of germs and viruses the natural way. Add 20 drops of Lemon pure essential oil to 100ml of water into your Spritz bottle. Spray over surfaces for a natural anti-bacterial clean. Avoid spraying on body or contact with skin.

If you wish to build up your Aromatherapy repertoire and make an investment this Winter, I recommend Australian Sandalwood. A few drops of this natural antiseptic will provide immediate relief to sore throats, chest infections and coughs.  (Use as in methods of use outlined above.) Also, by adding 4 drops to 100ml spritz bottle it will rehydrate and restore dry and inflamed skin. Simply spray over the face in the morning and at night, avoiding contact with the eye area.

Finally, Vaporisation is the most practiced method of use which not only creates a warming ambience, but protects your loved ones and family this Winter. Add 2 drops each of Cedarwood, Lavender and Peppermint (total of 6 drops) to water in your Candle or Electric Vaporiser to eradicate airborne germs and freshen your home over Winter.
