What is it?

Heart Disease kills one Australian nearly every 10 minutes. However, there is a lot you and your family can do, to prevent the risk of developing heart disease, by taking steps to control the factors that put you at greater risk.

Pharmacist One-on-One Healthy Heart Clinic will help identify YOUR risk of developing heart disease. Our Health Care Pharmacist will provide the advice you need to help you on your way to a healthier heart. Take charge of your heart health!

What will you learn?

During your Healthy Heart consultation with our Health Care Pharmacist, you will receive tips and valuable information on how you can reduce the risk of developing heart disease. Your questions will be answered, such as:

• What should my blood pressure be?
• What’s my cholesterol level and how can I lower it?
• What foods should I be avoiding?
• What exercise should I be doing?
• What impact does smoking have on my heart?

What tests will be done?

• Blood Pressure – indicating the amount of pressure in the arteries as the heart pumps blood around the body. High blood pressure over a period of time can contribute to many illnesses such as heart attack, heart failure and stroke.
• Total Cholesterol – fatty substance that circulates in the blood. High cholesterol levels can lead to heart disease.
• Triglyceride – type of fat found in most of our ‘fatty’ foods. Studies have shown that high triglyceride levels have a close link with low levels of ‘good’ cholesterol and an increased risk of developing heart disease.
• Body Mass Index – an estimate of your total amount of body fat. Increased amount of body fat can increase the risk of heart disease.
• Waist circumference – fat measurement around the abdomen is a good predictor of health risk such as heart disease.
